Confession Time! I got sucked back into Diablo Immortal again and I’m not sorry. I have to say that the Druid class is very fun and ranks as one of my favorites classes. However the game is full of horrible greedy gacha mechanics so enter at your own risk. I only plan to level and get some gear for the druid and others I haven’t fully leveled yet (Tempest / Blood Knight). Immortal is worth playing if all you want to do is level some classes, gear them out with legendries and hop in from time to time to kill demons. If you want to push difficulty levels in the game then you have to make it a part time job and whip out some fat cash. Not worth it! But you can get many hours of enjoyment without spending a dime. This got me thinking. What other mobile options do we have for diablo like action rpgs?
A couple options for phone specifically are Titan’s Quest and Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance which are both great pc ports. Titan’s Quest has the base game plus a couple expansions, tons of content and lots of classes. It’s basically Diablo set in Greek Mythology. You can usually buy the base game for cheap but keep an eye out for the different Legendary/Ultimate editions if you want the expansions but you can buy them in the base game if you find you like it. The expansions allow you to jump in at higher level and play them from the start. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance was a quiet drop on mobile that didn’t get the recognition it deserved. This is a stellar remake of tan amazing arpg, with full voice acting, graphics revamp and more. Top tier arpg with a good story set in the world of D&D. This has been one of my favorite games for many years now and I still go back to revisit it.
Now we move into handheld consoles. The original Nintendo Switch has some nice options like the console version of Diablo 3 which allows you to play offline and without a Battlenet account! The Switch has a decent selection of Diablo style, action rpgs like Diablo 2 remake; Hades, Titan’s Quest, Torchlight 2 and like I mentioned, Diablo 3. Next up is the Steam Deck and it is a good fit with the Switch as they both have games the other doesn’t. Switch has Diablo 2 &3 while the Steam Deck has some heavy hitters like Last Epoch, Path of Exile 1&2, Sacred 2, Titan’s Quest, Torchlight 1&2 and even Diablo 4 with a little work (load Battlenet Launcher yourself). This list is by no means exhaustive but gives you a taste of what the system offers for mobile action rpg gaming.
So if you are getting the itch to throw down on some evil and get your arpg fix on the go then there are a lot of nice options of make that happen. Just stay out of the Diablo Immortal shop…you will thank me later.
