.hack//Link (PSP)
Dot hack meets Back to the Future
The dot hack series is best known for the amazing trilogy on the PS2 which has been repackaged for Steam, Switch and other consoles as a compilation for modern day. The series is about players diving into an MMORPG fantasy world then things go sideways. The .hack//Link game was released only in Japan on the PSP and takes place after the PS2 trilogy. Set in a fictional 2020, you dive into a new MMORPG World (server) known as The World R:X. Link does a good job of meeting familar characters from the trilogy while you chase down Kite and stop the villian Fluegel. The game has a solid story and the combat is ok but very repetitive. It doesn't quite hold up to it's predecessors but it's still not a bad game for the PSP system. The combat is a basic hack'n slash with fun boss fights and timing based combos. The combos are fun at first but get repetitive and stale the longer you play. I like the game for the PSP system and it's worth a look if you are a fan of the series. There is a fan translated English version of the game which allow players from outside Japan to enjoy it. Rate: 7/10
