We are working on a golden era comics tabletop rpg. The inspiration for that came directly out of public domain comics and having this open library to enjoy. Comicbookplus.com and the Digital Comic Museum websites are great sources for a look into the past. Some of those comics range from cheesy to crazy and not stuff you’d see today which makes them a trip to read. Another interesting site is Fandom’s list of Public Domain Superheroes which I found fun digging through for interesting characters.
Youtuber Austin McConnell has a great series of videos about his journey into public domain heroes and turning them into a larger work. Two of my favorite videos are “i got bored and made my own Cinematic Universe” and “My Absurd Quest To Revive A Terrible Superhero”. His videos have certainly been an inspiration for me.
Some of the articles we post aren’t simply just about the games we’re making but also the things that inspire us along the way. Comics, nerdom, gaming (in many forms) and people’s creativity are things we love to talk about, celebrate and share. It reminds me of when I ran a game store back in the late 90’s. We would hang out and talk about games like Magic the Gathering, 40k, DnD, and Shadowrun. There is nothing quite like having a local game store with collectable card games, tabletop roleplaying and wargaming going on around you on any given Saturday. We hope to capture some of that magic here for you and create games that help continue that legacy of friendship and fun.
