While digging through Evercade cartridges online, I found this interesting game called Roguecraft DX. The game currently has a demo on Steam so you can try before you buy but it has not released on pc yet. This is a roguelike, turn based dungeon crawler where you explore procedurally generated dungeons. This is the old school turned based system where you move or attack then the enemy moves or attacks. It reminds me of an isometric Orcs & Elves from the Nintendo DS days. I’m loving the art style as it has a very retro modern look like a modern take on a Gameboy Advance game. We’ve seen all these elements (roguelike, turn based etc) in other games but they seem to have hit all the right spots with this. I’m looking forward to trying the demo this weekend and adding this to my wishlist. The game is already out on for Evercade which makes for a pretty tempting purchase.
UPDATE: Played the demo and love the game. It’s very, very simple yet addicting. Great, catchy retro chip music, art style and theme. Every dungeon run is different with hidden rooms, lots of interesting potions, monsters and chickens (no clue why). So long as they keep the price on the lower end then I’ll pick it up day one. It’s not for everyone but fans of retro dungeon crawlers will enjoy it. Great game to have on a Steam Deck or pc handheld for a quick game.
Steam description: “Roguecraft is a casual yet challenging turn-based roguelike, crafted for fans of classic dungeon crawlers and inspired by Lovecraftian horror. Explore procedurally generated dungeons with mysterious potions, scary chickens, and secret rooms waiting to be discovered!”
